You’re running for U.S. Senate in the state of Massachusetts, home of Boston and the Red Sox. Do you: A) Make sure the many fans there love you and your candidacy; or B) Make fun of said fans and their devotion to the team?
If you’re Martha Coakley, the Democratic nominee for U.S. Senate, you mock the fans and their devotion to the team:
Coakley bristles at the suggestion that, with so little time left, in an election with such high stakes, she is being too passive.
“As opposed to standing outside Fenway Park? In the cold? Shaking hands?’’ she fires back, in an apparent reference to a Brown online video of him doing just that.
Hey, you know what Red Sox fans do? Stand in the cold at Fenway Park. Except they’re not running for Senate, just watching their team play. So does Coakley consider them even dumber since they have nothing to gain from their activity?
And what did she do instead of shaking hands with Red Sox fans? She met with federally-registered lobbyists for an expensive dinner in Washington. Seriously.
