Yes, Rush Limbaugh Was Right

I’ve donated to the American Red Cross and I intend to continue doing what I can to help the people of Haiti in their time of need. It’s very much a human thing to do.

But, as Jim Geraghty says, Rush Limbaugh was right. Here’s what the conservative talker said:

We’ve already donated to Haiti. It’s called the U.S. income tax.

And while many take issue with his statement at this point, it’s absolutely true. It’s not even an opinion that can be disputed. It’s provable fact.

The United States government has long been sending American tax dollars to assist the people of Haiti. Many billions of dollars over several decades have flown from the United States into the western hemisphere’s poorest country, only to see local corruption leave the Haitian people to continue living in destitution. It’s quite a sad story.

And while Limbaugh’s comment may not be diplomatic in this time of disaster recovery, that doesn’t make said comment any less accurate. The fact is, we’ve been donating through our tax dollars for decades. Very little good has been done. That’s not likely to change in the near future.
