Breaking: McCain To Oppose Bernanke Confirmation

by Stephan Tawney on January 25, 2010

Senator John McCain (R-AZ), now facing a primary challenge from conservative JD Hayworth, says he will oppose the confirmation of Ben Bernanke as Fed chair.

Bernanke, who also sits on the board overseeing the Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP), has overseen the largest expansion of power for the Federal Reserve since its creation in 1913.

He’s also been wrong more times than we can count, even insisting right before the housing bubble burst that no bubble existed. He claimed we wouldn’t end up in a recession and that housing prices would only stabilize at most.

So I’d say McCain is right on this one. It’s time to start with a fresh Fed chair and hold the current one accountable. Bernanke should go.

I think so too. On a side note, I can’t believe Hayworth is running against McCain, he’s hardly a conservative. In fact, in 2005, they passed a bill with 6,500 pork barrel earmarks worth more than 24 billion dollars… and JD voted for every one…
