What’s Not Covered by the “Spending Freeze”

It’s important to remember that the proposed “spending freeze” will only cover non-security discretionary spending. So what federal programs are exempt from Barack Obama’s “spending freeze”? Let’s review.

  • Social Security
  • Medicare
  • Medicaid
  • Iraq war
  • Afghan war
  • Defense spending
  • Homeland security
  • Veteran affairs
  • Foreign aid

In other words, the overwhelming majority of the federal deficit will continue to rise unabated by this spending freeze. In fact, the deficit will increase by $9 trillion over the 10 years that the freeze is supposed to save us $250 billion.  The amount the freeze “saves” doesn’t even qualify as a drop in the federal budget bucket.
