Gibbs: Hell Yeah, We’re Gonna Execute KSM

by Stephan Tawney on January 31, 2010

Okay, two things here.

First, it’s good news that the Obama Administration intends to have the mastermind of the 9/11 attacks executed. As much as it seems like common sense, we’ve been dealing with a president more interested in looking HopeNChangey than effectively fighting the war on terrorism.

But on the other hand, this shows that the United States government has already concluded that he’s guilty and going to be executed. Which makes his idiotic trial in a domestic court, rather than a military tribunal as it should be, a show trial with a predetermined outcome. We’re going to spend hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars, never mind security risks, for a show trial?

I might be a defense hawk but I’m no fan of expensive show trials. If a terrorist isn’t killed on the battlefield he should eventually have his day in court. Terrorists, as war criminals, should be tried fairly in military tribunals. Instead, we’re trying him in a domestic court with a predetermined outcome. It’s a waste of time and money.
