Tsunami Warnings Across the Pacific

Last night’s massive 8.8 earthquake in Chile has killed at least 76 people and caused extensive destruction throughout the country. But of more immediate concern is the potential for tsunamis across the Pacific.

Australia is preparing for a potential strike while Hawaiians are told to move inland immediately.

People in Hawaii were urgently told to protect lives and property from a tsunami crossing the Pacific as fast as a jetliner after a devastating earthquake in Chile.

Tsunami waves were likely to hit Asian, Australian and New Zealand shores within 24 hours of the earthquake, which struck early Saturday on Chile’s coast.

The wave is only expected to be a few feet high, but those few feet are traveling at the speed of a jetliner. Which means if you’re reading this on a Hawaiian beach, do me a favor: Pack up the laptop and run as fast as your legs will carry you. And stay where you stop for about 24 hours.
