Of course it is. Socializing the nation’s health care system and rationing health services has always been the true launching platform for socialism in America.
The government could control who gets what medicine, how much doctors get paid, and which patients are worth saving. Basically, the government can control your life and death decisions. With such a regime implemented and accepted, what would stop the same government from, say, determining which job you perform? Or how much food you can purchase? Or where you can shop? Those are petty issues compared to your health.
“Kick open that door, and there will be other legislation to follow,” she said. “We’ll take the country in a new direction.”
And the direction she’s talking about as a San Francisco liberal is, of course, hard-left. Not just liberalism or progressivism anymore, but rather full-fledged socialism. After all, Gallup found a majority of Democrats had favorable views of socialism. With Democrats in power for at least another 10 months, they’ll go for the end zone if ObamaCare becomes law.
Where will the moderate Democrats be? Looking for cover to vote for the hard-left agenda. There are really no such things as moderate Democrats in Washington. Just Democrats who require varying degrees of political cover before voting for a hard-left agenda.
Sometimes they get the cover and sometimes they don’t. In extreme cases of the latter situation, they’ll vote against left-wing legislation. Not out of commitment to moderate ideology, of course, but rather out of concern that the lack of political cover would lead to political suicide. If they suddenly achieve the minimum amount of political cover necessary, it’s full steam ahead for the hard-left agenda.
It’s time to stop trusting Democratic politicians who paint themselves as Blue Dogs or moderates. With the exception of maybe a half-dozen, they’re just trying to win an election.
