It’s not that flying the flag has been explicitly opposed by the Haitian government or anything. In fact, many other countries with troops on the ground are flying their countries’ flags. France, Britain, and even Croatia are showing their colors.
But the United States, which has committed more troops than any other single country? No flag for you!
The many nations helping Haiti recover from the devastating earthquake that struck there have set up their own military compounds and fly their flags at the entrances.
France’s tricolor, Britain’s Union Jack and even Croatia’s coat of arms flap in the breeze.
But the country whose contributions dwarf the rest of the world’s — the United States — has no flag at its main installation near the Port-au-Prince airport.
The lack of the Stars and Stripes does not sit well with some veterans and servicemembers who say the U.S. government should be proud to fly the flag in Haiti, given the amount of money and manpower the U.S. is donating to help the country recover from the Jan. 12 quake.
The Obama administration says flying the flag could give Haiti the wrong idea.
“We are not here as an occupation force, but as an international partner committed to supporting the government of Haiti on the road to recovery,” the U.S. government’s Haiti Joint Information Center said in response to a query about the flag.
Pardon my French, but what the fuck does that have to do with flying the American flag at an American compound? There is no dispute that Haiti remains a sovereign country with its own government, flag, and military. Flying our flag at our compound, especially after all of the aide we’ve committed to Haiti, isn’t about to threaten that sovereignty.
Good Lord. Under the Obama Administration we’ve become more politically correct than France. France, the butt of every weak foreign policy and surrender joke under the sun. Yeah, we’re showing more weakness and PC bullcrap than them.
We Americans are, by and large, proud of our military. We’re proud of the work they do, the sacrifices they make, and the flag they should be flying. Our military isn’t occupying Haiti, it’s helping with relief efforts. Our flag should be flying prominently and proudly. Let’s show at least as much national pride as France or Croatia.

This is not surprising, since our President has a history of not saluting our flag or standing at attention during our National Anthem, at several televised events I’ve seen. Any President who does not have respect for our flag or our National Anthem does not deserve to be President of our great nation. It shows he does not respect our country enough. His disrespect of our flag & National Anthem was shown before his election, and the voters completely missed it.
