Maffei (D-NY) Flip-Flops On Senate Legislation

by Stephan Tawney on March 16, 2010

Where does Rep. Dan Maffei (D-NY) stand on the Senate version of government-run health care? Depends on the day.

On March 8, 2010, Maffei told his constituents that he opposed the legislation, which would gut Medicare, places bureaucrats between patients and doctors, and provides federal funding for abortion. More specifically he said, “The Senate bill, in my view, burns the village in order to save it.” And on March 8, Maffei was no fan of village burning.

But that was then and this is now. A whopping, er, 8 days later, Maffei says to bring on the torches. He has announced that he’ll vote in favor of the Senate’s government-run health care legislation. The New York Democrat has done a complete 180 on the same exact legislation in a period of about a week.

Are you slightly peeved by his announcement? Feel free to contact him. Melt the phones if you must.

Let him know that come November his constituents will see him for the unprincipled flip-flopper he truly is. And then he’ll be looking for new employment.
