Name: Marco Rubio
Age: 38
Ideology: Conservative
Currently running for: Republican nomination, United States Senate, Florida
—
Marco Rubio isn’t your average Republican politician stereotype. He’s young, can really fire up a crowd, and isn’t the “old white man” caricature pushed by liberal pundits.
The former Speaker of the Florida House of Representatives is an unapologetic conservative, opposing big government measures like cap-and-tax and socialized health care. Unlike his opponent, Governor Charlie Crist (R), he opposed the failed $825 billion “stimulus” package even when opposition wasn’t popular. While he breaks the stereotype of Republicans these days, he’s the quintessential fiscal conservative.
Rubio believes in a strong national defense, family values, and responsible government. He has been endorsed by prominent conservative organizations from across the country, indicating his commitment to smaller government and less federal spending. He believes the deficit must be cut significantly and taxes lowered.
Rubio holds a Juris Doctor from the University of Miami and B.S. from the University of Florida. He and his family, including his four children, reside in Miami.
The Florida US Senate primary is held on August 24, 2010. The general election is, of course, held on November 2nd.
