Update: Cao Will Oppose Abortion Funding

The only Congressional Republican to support government-run health care in November, Rep. Joseph Cao (R-LA), will vote against the legislation this time around. His reason? The Senate version, which the House will vote on this Sunday, provides federal funding for voluntary abortion procedures.

Cao, unlike many allegedly pro-life Democrats in the House, resisted any arm-twisting or bribe attempts by the White House and Speaker’s office. He has decided to stand up for his principles, voting to protect the sanctity of life.

The Louisiana Republican doesn’t oppose health care reform, mind you. But like most Americans he doesn’t belief the federal government should be using taxpayer funds for voluntary abortions. Hence his “no” vote this time around.

Cao says he will only vote for the legislation of the abortion funding is stripped. House Democrats refuse to do anything of the sort. So Democrats will take all of the blame for this terribly unpopular legislation.

November should be fun.
