Berry (D-Ark): The Executive Order Is A Sham

by Stephan Tawney on March 21, 2010

Confirming what we already suspected: Rep. Bart Stupak (D-MI) sold out his purported convictions for a nonsense promise from Obama that amounts to nothing.

His colleague Rep. Marion Berry (D-Ark), who is pro-life, says he will oppose the government-run health care legislation because the executive order promise is a sham.

“Throughout this debate, I have stood by my conviction that the Senate health care reform bill does not adequately address the issue of federal funds being used to pay for abortions. Despite the recently announced Executive Order addressing this issue, I remain concerned that this legislation does not go far enough to satisfy my concerns. As a pro-life Member of Congress, I believe that abortion is fundamentally wrong, and taxpayer money should not be allowed to support it.”

Translation: Obama is full of shit, and so is the executive order he has promised. It won’t actually ban federal abortion funding, and even if it did he could simply repeal the order any time he so chooses.
