Inevitable: Stupak Will Vote for Gov’t-Run Health Care

by Stephan Tawney on March 21, 2010

(Read Update.)

Representative Bart Stupak (D-MI) has sold out his constituents and will vote in favor of government-run health care that provides federal funding for voluntary abortion procedures.

In exchange Obama, who has broken more promises than a drunk college guy trying to get laid, has promised to sign a legally non-binding executive order that bans abortion funding. Kind of. For now. Obama can repeal the order at his whim at any point in the future.

So Stupak basically found enough political cover to vote for federal abortion funding. He buckled. He wasn’t willing to stand his ground against the far-left and its culture of death. He knows the EO won’t actually ban abortion funding, or at least that Obama will repeal it later. It’s all just political cover.

Never trust a Democratic politician. Never. They don’t actually hold convictions. They pretend to until the last minute of pressure, when they look for enough political cover to vote for a big government, pro-abortion agenda. Never trust them. Never.

Let the mass political and national suicide commence.

Update: Now there’s some dispute of the MSNBC and Politico report on Twitter and CNN. I’ll leave the post up until there’s further confirmation either way. There’s a 95% chance Stupak caves anyway.

His vote is unlikely to matter much in the end. His block is peeling away and Baird (D-WA) just switched to a yes. They’re joining the kamikaze movement, taking the country out with them.

Update X2: Senior Democratic aides are still telling NRO and The Politico that Stupak has flipped.
