Video: Conyers Explains The “Good and Welfare Clause”

by Stephan Tawney on March 23, 2010

If you’ve actually read the US Constitution you’re probably wondering what in the hell Rep. John Conyers (D-MI) is talking about when using the “Good and Welfare Clause” to constitutionally justify ObamaCare. Mainly because there’s no such thing as the “Good and Welfare Clause” in the United States Constitution.

You would also be justified if you express concern over the fact that the chairman of the House Judiciary Committee isn’t quite sure what’s in the Constitution he’s sworn to protect and uphold. But then again, Madame Speaker isn’t into answering constitutional questions either. So…

Best part? This dumbass actually touts his credential as House Judiciary chairman right after referring to a non-existent section of the Constitution. And then he promises that he would have tried to correct any unconstitutional provisions if they did. Because he’s an expert on the Constitution, you see.

Do note an important part of the interviewer’s question: He notes that the Congressional Budget Office has determined that never before has the federal government required a private citizen to purchase a specific product. There’s no legal precedent giving them the power to do so, either. Democrats are making all kinds of history, baby!

Exit disbelief: Not only are Democrats now ignoring the Constitution, they’re actually just making sections up whole cloth.

can’t democrats see that–despite their efforts to the contrary–the freedom from tyrannical control of this country was and is established by the the bill of rights and the declaration of independence. EVEN I KNOW THAT!!! i learned–as a junior in high school–that my rights as a a free citizen are garunteed to subordinate governmental powers to constitutional rights and priviles. the fool that cited the “good and welfare clause” ought to be impeached and mandated he re-inroll in high school!
