CBS: 62% Want Republicans To Keep Fighting ObamaCare

by Stephan Tawney on March 24, 2010

An overwhelming majority of Americans want the Republican Party to continue its fight against government-run health care legislation, according to a new poll released by CBS News.

It’s just the latest political blow to Democrats after they passed big government legislation a majority of Americans oppose.

Senate Republicans are now challenging whether the bill is truly a budget reconciliation bill (which is what makes it filibuster-proof) and inserting amendments designed to slow down passage. Republican attorneys general are also planning to challenge the constitutionality of the law.

The poll finds that 62 percent want Congressional Republicans to keep challenging the bill, while 33 percent say they should not do so. Nearly nine in ten Republicans and two in three independents want the GOP to keep challenging. Even 41 percent of Democrats support continued challenges.

A majority of Americans remain unhappy with the partisan nature of the legislation, with Democrats abandoning attempts to compromise

About 90% of Republicans, 66% of Independents, and 41% of Democrats(!) want Republicans to continue challenging the left-wing health care takeover legislation. That’s a result even the most optimistic of us opponents didn’t foresee.

The message from Americans is clear: They’re not interested in celebrated Obama’s victory and then moving on to the next big government agenda item. They want Republicans to fight and fight hard. And Republicans should do precisely that.
