Surprise: Liberals Forgot To Protect Children Under ObamaCare

Specifically, they forgot to actually include the provision that would prevent insurance companies from denying new coverage to children with pre-existing medical conditions. Seriously? Seriously.

You see, Democrats rammed government-run health care through so fast that they didn’t even stop to make sure one of their biggest promises was fulfilled: A guarantee of coverage for children.

Adults? Yes. Children? No.

Hours after President Barack Obama signed historic health care legislation, a potential problem emerged. Administration officials are now scrambling to fix a gap in highly touted benefits for children.

Obama made better coverage for children a centerpiece of his health care remake, but it turns out the letter of the law provided a less-than-complete guarantee that kids with health problems would not be shut out of coverage.

Under the new law, insurance companies still would be able to refuse new coverage to children because of a pre-existing medical problem, said Karen Lightfoot, spokeswoman for the House Energy and Commerce Committee, one of the main congressional panels that wrote the bill Obama signed into law Tuesday.

But convicted sex offenders can still get Viagra, while taxpayers are forced to fund abortion-on-demand procedures.

You know what would be a perfect solution to this lack of coverage? An amendment introduced by Republicans to the reconciliation package. That would constitute a major change having nothing to do with the budget? Damn shame.
