Castro Congratulates Obama On Great Socialist Victory

by Stephan Tawney on March 25, 2010

Who likes Obama's policies? This guy. Yeah, him.

It would seem that Barack Obama and his allies in Congress have some friends down in Cuba. Namely, dictator Fidel Castro. The LA Times calls it a “dubious endorsement” but I suspect Obama, privately speaking, is just fine with complements from Castro.

Cuban revolutionary leader Fidel Castro on Thursday declared passage of American health care reform “a miracle” and a major victory for Obama’s presidency, but couldn’t help chide the United States for taking so long to enact what communist Cuba achieved decades ago.

“We consider health reform to have been an important battle and a success of his (Obama’s) government,” Castro wrote in an essay published in state media, adding that it would strengthen the president’s hand against lobbyists and “mercenaries.”

In short, Castro is chiding America for taking so long to implement policies his Communist hell-hole implemented years ago. But congratulations to Obama for finally passing that Communist policy!

But the Cuban leader also used the lengthy piece to criticize the American president for his lack of leadership on climate change and immigration reform, and for his decision to send more troops to Afghanistan, among many other things.

Anyone else concerned by the fact that Castro seems to have the same policy positions as the Democratic Party? Socialized health care? Check. Global warming legislation? Check. Amnesty for illegals? Check. Opposition to war in Afghanistan? Check.

It’s almost like the modern Democratic Party is socialist at best. Funny that.

Update: Via Allahpundit, this awesome white-washing from the Associated Press.

Cuba provides free health care and education to all its citizens, and heavily subsidizes food, housing, utilities and transportation, policies that have earned it global praise. The government has warned that some of those benefits are no longer sustainable given Cuba’s ever-struggling economy, though it has so far not made major changes.

Wow. You know who will have a profitable year? Republican advertising firms.

“. . . Castro . . . couldn’t help chide the United States for taking so long to enact what communist Cuba achieved decades ago.”

Well, if Cuban health care is so great, how come I have to send my aging aunt at least $200 a month, EVERY MONTH so she can survive there? In addition, I also send her about $150 extra dollars worth of medicine for her and her (my) family because they can’t find the medicines anywhere in that socialist paradise . . .

    These people are unrepentant liers!

    GO MARCO RUBIO!!!
