A suicide bomber dressed as a policeman detonated himself and apparently left several people dead in Russia’s North Caucuses republic of Dagestan. The terrorist struck as police were investigating an earlier explosion in the same area.
An earlier explosion? Yes. The suicide bomber was dressed as a policeman in an apparent attempt to come within closer proximity to police officers who were investigating an earlier attack in the same city.
A suicide bomber dressed as policeman is responsible for one of the blasts in Russia’s North Caucasus republic of Dagestan, local police and investigators said on Wednesday.
At least nine people including the local police chief were killed and six others were injured in two explosions in the town of Kizlyar on Wednesday morning.
An investigator told RIA Novosti that the suicide bomber struck as a team of investigators was working at the scene of the first explosion.
So nine people including a police chief were left dead after two explosions, one carried out by a suicide bomber dressed as a cop during an investigation of the first attack. And this follows the deadly suicide bombing in Moscow metro stations yesterday morning, when several dozen innocent bystanders were left dead.
Absolutely horrible. Terrorism isn’t new in Russia but these attacks appear to be occurring more often as of late. You have to wonder why.
Update: The Associated Press has more details:
In Wednesday’s attacks, a suicide bomber detonated explosives in a car when pulled over by traffic police in the town of Kizlyar near Dagestan’s border with Chechnya, regional Interior Ministry spokesman Vyacheslav Gasanov said.
As investigators and residents gathered at the scene of the blast, a second bomber wearing a police uniform approached and set off explosives, killing the town’s police chief among others, said Vyacheslav Gadzhiyev, another ministry spokesman.
So there were two suicide bombers: The first detonated his car when he was pulled over, and the second bomber detonated himself after waiting for crowds and police to gather around the first bombing. Sickening.
