Representative Carol Shea-Porter (D-NH) is holding a particularly rocky town hall meeting in which she’s regularly getting pressed by constituents pissed over her vote for government-run health care. A sample:

Shea Porter begins by saying the healthcare bill was bipartisan effort. “What a joke. You’ve got to be kidding me,” people scream.

When Shea Porter cites CBO deficit reduction stat in #hcr, man from 2nd to last row yells, “How about Medicare when it started?”

Continuing to get rowdy. Shea-Porter: “I am telling you the district DOES support #hcr” Crowd taunts: “How are your polls Carol?”

The tension has risen to the point where Shea-Porter actually accused her constituents a little whole ago of working for insurance companies. Yes, she’s now accusing her own constituents of being tools of corporate special interests. That should give you an idea of how much trouble she’s in.

The best part so far?

Shea-Porter: “I don’t think anybody in this country believes in socialism. You may know them. I don’t.”

She obviously doesn’t know much, then. Senator Bernie Sanders (D-VT) is an admitted socialist.

In Vermont, voters have elected Bernie Sanders to become the country’s first self-described socialist to be elected to the U.S. Senate.

Running as an independent, Sanders won 65 percent of the vote, easily beating his Republican opponent Rich Tarrant who is one Vermont’s wealthiest residents. Sanders will replace fellow independent Jim Jeffords in the Senate. For the past 16 years, Sanders has served as Vermont’s sole member in the House.

He works in the same building she does.

Not good enough? Okay, how about a recent Gallup poll showing a majority of Democrats holding a favorable view of socialism?

Or how about the members of the House of Representatives who are members of the Democratic Socialists of America party? Or, you know, any number of members of Congress who regularly praise Fidel Castro and/or Hugo Chavez.

Shea-Porter is either lying or completely ignorant of her surroundings.
