Will the Dow Jones Hit 11,000 Today?

by Stephan Tawney on April 6, 2010

In yet another sign that our economic recovery isn’t likely to include substantive job growth any time soon, the Dow Jones Industrial Average will open just 26.45 points short of 11,000 this morning.

While hitting 11,000 would be a psychological milestone (highest level since September 2008), it’s unlikely to assuage the concerns of ordinary Americans. Unemployment has become stagnant at 9.7% and recent economic news has been mixed at best.

In short, you care very little about a rising DJIA if members of your family are unemployed and you’re worried about paying your mortgage next month.
