This is going to hurt the left’s whole “Goldman Sachs is a Republican organization” narrative. Never mind Democratic connections to the company over the years, progressives have been trying to pain this as a right-wing scandal. Not so much.
Greg Craig must really be pissed at the Obama Administration, no? Coming into the midterms, with Democrats already connected to corruption and corporate scandals, the former White House counsel for the Obama Administration will be representing a major company charged with fraud? Ouch.
Goldman Sachs is launching an aggressive response to its political and legal challenges with an unlikely ally at its side — President Barack Obama’s former White House counsel, Gregory Craig.
The beleaguered Wall Street bank hired Craig — now in private practice at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom — in recent weeks to help in navigate the halls of power in Washington, a source familiar with the firm told POLITICO.
“He is clearly an attorney of eminence and has a deep understanding of the legal process and the world of Washington,” the source said. “And those are important worlds for everybody in finance right now.”
You’ll recall that Craig was thrown under the bus after Obama failed to close Guantanamo Bay within the one-year deadline. Craig was the public face of the effort, and so was, er, retired when reality smacked the Obama Administration square in the face.
As Philip Klein says,” (The) big door keeps on revolving!” Indeed it does.
