Amazing, huh? There’s a tight race in Florida where the Democratic candidate could benefit from Charlie Crist going rogue. And there’s the Obama Administration’s Justice Department and IRS to investigate conservative Marco Rubio and the Florida GOP! Impeccable timing, I dare say.
Federal law enforcement agencies have launched a criminal investigation into the use of American Express cards issued by the Republican Party of Florida to elected officials and staff, according to sources familiar with the inquiry.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office in Tallahassee, the FBI and the Internal Revenue Service are all involved in the inquiry, which grew out of the state investigation into former House Speaker Ray Sansom. He was indicted on criminal charges that he stashed $6 million in the state budget for an airplane hangar for a friend and campaign donor. …
Meanwhile, in a separate inquiry, the IRS is also looking at the tax records of at least three former party credit card holders — former Florida House Speaker Marco Rubio, ex-state party chairman Jim Greer and ex-party executive director Delmar Johnson — to determine whether they misused their party credit cards for personal expenses, according to a source familiar with the preliminary inquiry. …
The IRS opened the so-called “primary” investigation into Rubio, the leading Republican candidate for Florida’s open U.S. Senate seat, and the two former state GOP officials to see if there’s enough evidence to support a full-fledged criminal inquiry, according to a source familiar with the IRS examination.
This would be the same Justice Department that voluntarily dropped its case against the Black Panther Party over voter intimidation on election day. And the same Justice Department that suddenly ended an investigation into New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson (D).
But now there’s a hotly-contested US Senate race in Florida and the Obama Justice Department is right there to help Democrats. How serendipitous. Because do note: This isn’t an ongoing investigation only made known today. The investigation was only launched in the middle of the Senate race.
Am I suggesting it’s politically motivated? Well, gee, this is the same Obama Administration that dropped charges against a black nationalist group that helped intimidate non-white voters. It’s the same Obama Administration that had an investigation into a former cabinet nominee dropped. It’s the same Obama Administration that fired an Inspector General who was investigating another political ally’s corruption.
So yeah, I’d say there’s some history of politically-motivated decisions at the Obama Justice Department, under the authority of Attorney General Eric “We’re a Nation of Cowards” Holder.
