Reid: Republicans are “Anti-American” For Filibuster

by Stephan Tawney on April 28, 2010

Note to voters in Nevada: Harry Reid thinks opposing future taxpayer-funded bailouts of Wall Street is “un-American”.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) accused Republicans of being “anti-American” by demanding changes to a Wall Street regulation bill before it’s debated openly on the Senate floor…

“Even some Democrats would like to offer amendments on this bill,” Reid said. “All of this talk from Republicans about wanting to do something about this bill before it gets on the floor is really anti-Senate and anti-American.”

To be clear, Republicans aren’t blocking this measure by themselves. Senator Ben Nelson (D-NE), who voted with Democrats on health care and is evidently “pro-American” enough to remain in Harry Reid’s caucus, has voted with Republicans against bringing the bill to the floor. Is fellow Democrat Ben Nelson also “anti-American”? No comment from Dingy Harry.

This rhetoric is completely expected from Harry Reid and the Democratic leadership. Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) even went as far as comparing Tea Party protesters to Nazis. Oppose a big government, far-left agenda? You must be anti-American and even a Nazi sympathizer. Your motives can never be pure.

Why do conservatives oppose this legislation? Not because they’re anti-American, but because they oppose creating a permanent bailout authority. They don’t want another bureaucracy that limits financial choices for consumers. They don’t want the federal government punishing community banks. And they don’t think it’s the federal government’s job to bail out financial institutions that haven’t even failed yet.

Nevadan voters should really take into consideration that Harry Reid considers such positions to be “anti-American”.
