The suspect in the attempted car bombing of Times Square has been arrested, according to NBC News. He has been identified as Faisal Shahzad.
Update: The bastard (sorry, alleged bastard) was trying to leave the country. CNN says he was detained at JFK airport in New York.
Update X2: Is this his Facebook profile? It’s been recently deleted, suggests he was in Pakistan, and shows him belonging to an apologia group for Aafia Siddiqui, an accused al Qaeda operative held by the United States.
Update X3: All of the major cable networks are covering the development live. We’re told to expect a press conference from Attorney General Eric Holder himself in the near future, as in any time now.
Update Press Conference (1:33 AM): Eric Holder has started the press conference. He says Faisal Shahzad was attempting to board a flight to Dubai when he was detained by federal officials.
Update X5: The press conference ends just two minutes later. Shows how significant the case is that the Attorney General himself gave a short press conference at 1:30 in the morning.
Update x6: The suspect is accused of actually driving the SUV into Times Square. The Associated Press says he’ll appear in federal court in New York later today.
Update X7: He was actually on the plane already, CNN says. He had to be taken off by DHS agents. We were close to losing this guy.
