The New York Police Department says its bomb squad unit is investigating a suspicious vehicle parked in Manhattan. The police scanner says police are evacuating the area.

Update: Fox News is saying a preliminary investigation has concluded there is explosive material in the vehicle.

Meanwhile, Steve Brusk of CNN says the vehicle is near the Con Ed building. (Consolidated Edison is a power company.)

Update X2: Here’s a live video feed from a news helicopter.

Update X3: Apparently the vehicle was reported because someone saw two gas canisters inside.

Update X4: There are fewer emergency vehicles on the scene than before, but no all-clear from law enforcement yet. I’m betting this turns out to be nothing.

Update X5: Brusk says bomb technicians are suiting up to get a closer look.
