Video: Richard Blumenthal Lies About His Military Record

by Stephan Tawney on May 17, 2010

Here’s actual video of his March 2, 2008, speech in which Attorney General Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) claimed to have served in Vietnam. Which we now know is complete bunk. He received multiple deferments — mostly for educational or career purposes — until 1970, when he enlisted in the Marine Corps Reserves for domestic duties. He never served in ‘Nam.

The video comes from the campaign of Linda McMahon, another Republican opponent of Blumenthal’s. Her campaign is actually claiming credit for feeding the tip to the New York Times, which then proceeded to investigate. If true, I’m with Jim Geraghty: She should be RNC chair. Imagine what she could do with Barack Obama in 2012. Gold.

By the way, Blumenthal has responded to the Times story by claiming it’s, “an outrageous distortion of Dick Blumenthal’s record of service.” The statement then goes on to essentially confirm every detail of the story. All the Blumenthal campaign’s response does is stress his eventual enlistment for domestic duty in 1970.

He’s done.
