Candidate Reactions to Blumenthal ServiceGate

by Stephan Tawney on May 18, 2010

ServiceGate? ‘NamGate? I’m still working on -Gate name for this scandal. In the meantime, ServiceGate it shall be.

Anyway, what was I doing…oh, right, candidate reactions. This will be a running thread.

Rob Simmons (R), an actual veteran of the Vietnam war, having been awarded two Bronze Stars. He retired as a Colonel in the United States Army Reserve in 2003:

As someone who served, I respect Richard Blumenthal for wearing the uniform, but I am deeply troubled by allegations that he has misrepresented his service. Too many have sacrificed too much to have their valor stolen in this way. I hope Mr. Blumenthal steps forward and forthrightly addresses the questions that have arisen about this matter.

Linda McMahon (R), who reportedly alerted the New York Times to the scandal, has posted a video of Blumenthal lying about his military service. There’s no actual text statement from the campaign as of yet.

Likewise, Peter Schiff (R) has yet to post a statement.
