Video: A Republican Response to Felipe Calderon

by Stephan Tawney on May 21, 2010

When the leader of a foreign nation came to the United States Congress to slam an American state and the overwhelming majority of Americans who support the state’s new law, Congressional Democrats gave the foreign leader a standing ovation. Literally.

Congressional Republicans have since criticized the leader, Mexican President Felipe Calderon, but the video I’ve posted below is by the far the best conservative response yet.

Representative Tom McClintock (R-CA) points out that Mexico’s immigration policy is by far more exclusionary than ours, that this is a debate between the American people and the American people only, and that Arizona isn’t creating new immigration law but rather attempting to enforce current law. All while quoting Teddy Roosevelt and suggesting Calderon become an American citizen so as to legitimately take part in the domestic policy debate.

Brilliant and completely worth the time.
