It’s official: A Republican will represent Barack Obama’s home district in the U.S. House of Representatives. Charles Djou, a Republican city councilman from Honolulu, has defeated his Democratic and Republican rivals to become the new Congressman for Hawaii’s 1st Congressional district.

No Republican has represented the district, in which Barack Obama carried 70% of the vote in 2008, since 1988.
