Obama Admin Reverses Course, Goes After Israel

by Stephan Tawney on June 2, 2010

As the Republican Jewish Coalition says, the Biden interlude was nice while it lasted. Now the “we’re standing with Israel” line seems to have changed to “we’re joining nations like Turkey in condemning Israel”.

But another American official said this evening that the U.S. is in fact pushing on two fronts. The Obama Administration is, on one hand, defending Israel’s right to self defense and its soldiers right to protect themselves when “attacked” as they were aboard the Turkish vessel, and trying to calm European allies.

But the U.S. is also, the official said, sending a message to Israel that its blockade is not sustainable.

The message: “The Gaza policy is bankrupt and needs to be changed,” the official said.

In what way is the policy bankrupt? It serves its purpose in defending the Jewish state from terror attacks originating in Gaza. Unless that’s what makes the policy bankrupt. It’s not politically correct enough.

Sure the policy protects innocent Israelis from having missiles land in their backyards, but what about the terrorists and their supporters? They’re suffering, you know. Just like those poor terrorists down at Guantanamo Bay are suffering by having to sit in prison for attempting to murder innocent people around the world. Poor guys.
