Hey, remember when the Obama Administration insisted it has done everything possible to respond to the oil crisis in the Gulf? And that it was open to all solutions to protect the coast and its citizens? Yeah, funny story, apparently they were lying.
You may recall a pretty big story about a company in Maine that was cranking out boom — the stuff used to protect coast lines from oil spills — faster than it could find room to store the vital product. The company has been calling federal officials about its large supply but can’t get anyone to call back.
Well, Admiral Thad Allen — head of the Coast Guard’s response efforts — says no one has told him about the company or its offer. In fact, he’s looking for all the boom he can find and even asks the reporter, Jake Tapper, for the company’s information.
TAPPER: I talked to a guy who runs a company in Maine that offers boom, and he has – he says – the ability to make 90,000 feet of boom a day. High quality. BP came there 2 weeks ago, looked at it, they are doing another audit today. He is very frustrated, he says he has a lot of high quality boom to go and it is taking a long time for BP to get its act together. Don’t you need this boom right now?
ALLEN: Oh we need all the boom wherever we can get it. If you give me the information off camera I’ll be glad to follow up.
The notoriously incompetent BP has already looked into the company’s production capabilities, yet no one bothered to inform the National Incident Commander about the same development. What does that say about the federal government’s response to the incident, when BP was more informed than the Coast Guard’s point man?
The company, Packgen, is readily found on Google. Locating this company doesn’t require spy satellites or signal interception. The company is found through freaking Google, and its front page is loaded with videos of its frustrated executives being interviewed over its large quantities of boom and the federal government’s lack of interest.
Did no one in the federal government bother to open a new tab and grab their phone? It’s common sense, and once again the government has none.
