Governor Bobby Jindal (R) is tired of waiting for other parties involved in the oil spill to get their crap together. So, he has ordered the Louisiana National Guard to begin building an oil barrier off the coast of his state.
In Fort Jackson, La., Jindal has ordered the Guard to start building barrier walls right in the middle of the ocean. The barriers, built nine miles off shore, are intended to keep the oil from reaching the coast by filling the gaps between barrier islands…
Today, huge Blackhawk and Chinook helicopters lined up in the air, dropping sandbags one by one into the sea.
“They are lifting up about 7,000 pounds of sandbags,” said 1st Lt. James Tyson Gabler.
The spill is due to a BP oil rig in federal waters. It shouldn’t be up to the Louisiana governor to protect the coastline from the end result of a combined BP/federal government failure. I’m happy Jindal is taking initiative here.
