Ouch: Louisiana Voters Think Bush Did Better Than Obama in Disaster

by Stephan Tawney on June 15, 2010

Seriously, ouch. This comes from Democratic-linked polling firm Public Policy Polling, so there’s no motivation that immediately comes to mind for pro-Bush results. And yet

Our new Louisiana poll has a lot of data points to show how unhappy voters in the state are with Barack Obama’s handling of the oil spill but one perhaps sums it up better than anything else- a majority of voters there think George W. Bush did a better job with Katrina than Obama’s done dealing with the spill.

50% of voters in the state, even including 31% of Democrats, give Bush higher marks on that question compared to 35% who pick Obama.

Overall only 32% of Louisianans approve of how Obama has handled the spill to 62% who disapprove. 34% of those polled say they approved of how Bush dealt with Katrina to 58% who disapproved.

Nearly a third of Democrats in the state think Bush did a better job with Katrina than Obama has with the oil spill? No wonder we’re getting the first Oval Office address of the Obama Administration tonight.

(Speaking of which: Expect plenty of platitudes, deflection of blame, blatant lies about an immediate response, and promises of “reform” moving forward.)

As for Governor Bobby Jindal (R), who took initiative today and ordered the National Guard to protect the coastline? He has the highest approval rating of any governor or senator in 2010. A whopping 63% of voters approve of the job he’s doing. An even higher sixty-five percent approve of his handling of the spill.
