The Last Airbender Getting Panned By Critics?

by Stephan Tawney on July 1, 2010

I figured The Last Airbender, M. Night Shyamalan’s latest film, would do well based on name recognition alone.

If you’ve never heard of the story, this movie is based on the popular animated television series that ran on Nickelodeon. Supposedly it’s the first installment in a planned trilogy (there were three seasons of the original series).

Anyway, back to what I was saying: I thought the film would do well based on name recognition alone. And when I saw what appeared to be first-rate visuals, I figured the deal was done. But apparently I was wrong. Terribly, terribly wrong.

Last Airbender is being panned by critics. Descriptions thus far include “fiasco”, “stillborn”, the work of a man who has finally “lost it”, worthy of a class-action lawsuit against the creators, and just plain “bad”. The film garners just a 6% positive rating from Rotten Tomatoes, and that’s actually a 1% improvement from earlier.

Have you seen Airbender? If so, let me know what you thought. I’ll publish what you have to say, with full credit to you.
