Really, dumbass?
Keep in mind again, federal candidates, this was a war of Obama’s choosing. This was not something that the United States had actively prosecuted or wanted to engage in,” he said. “But it was the president who was trying to be cute by half by building a script demonizing Iraq, while saying the battle really should be in Afghanistan. Well, if he is such a student of history, has he not understood that you know that’s the one thing you don’t do, is engage in a land war in Afghanistan?
Where to start?
1) The chairman of the Republican National Committee should not be talking about losing the war. If the DNC chair wants to do that, fine. Democrats are known to pursue strategies of cut-and-run. But this is the Republican Party. Certainly there are elements of the right who think the war is lost, but that’s not the majority of Republicans.
2) In no way, shape, or form is Afghanistan a “war of Obama’s choosing”. This is a war launched by the Bush Administration, and rightly so, in response to the mass murder of 3,000 innocent people on September 11, 2001. Obama is doing nothing more than continuing the effort to push back the Taliban and defeat Al Qaeda. And I stand behind him on that.
3) Obama shouldn’t have demonized the war in Iraq. On that I agree. But the Republican Party chair should not be doing the same with Afghanistan.
4) I’m completely lost on the part about land wars in Afghanistan. Yes, I understand the history behind foreign powers being driven from the country in defeat. But again I would return to point number two. We, the Republicans, launched this war in response to the mass murder of 3,000 innocent people. We started the ground war, and we started it just two weeks after the attacks by landing CIA paramilitary operatives in the country. They were followed by regular ground forces.
So what does that have to do with Barack Obama’s misunderstanding of history?
Allahpundit speculates that Michael Steele may be ahead of the curve as 58% of the country supports a draw-down of troops next year. Perhaps.
But the population supported a cut-and-run strategy from Iraq, too, at one point. You don’t change your ideology based on polls. If you think winning the war is the best thing for your country, you push for victory even when the rest of the world abandons you. If it’s best for your country, then it’s best for your country. Polls aside.
