NRA Still Talking-Up Harry Reid’s Gun Record

by Stephan Tawney on July 2, 2010

Dude, the NRA isn’t really going to endorse Harry Reid because he provided a $61 million earmark and carve-out in the DISCLOSE Act, right? Actually, it’s quite possible.

Review the anti-gun votes cast by Reid over the years, as compiled by Erick Erickson at Red State. Basically Reid comes back every six years and promises to defend the Second Amendment. Then he goes back to Washington and casts anti-Second Amendment votes. He’s a professional bullshitter.

And yet….there’s the seemingly pro-Reid email from the NRA. Which, coincidentally I’m sure, comes after Reid provided a $61 earmark for a gun range in Nevada and ensured a carve-out for the NRA in the DISCLOSE Act.

Note to the NRA: You’re going to lose much more than an earmark if you endorse Reid this fall. Let’s face it: The majority of your membership is right-wing. Even if they’re Democrats, they tend to be conservatives. I thoroughly doubt you have large membership contingents of far-left liberals.

Harry Reid is a professional bullshitter, and the electorate sees that. Sharron Angle, a relative unknown, leads the multi-term incumbent by seven points already. Nevadans, much less the rest of the country, aren’t buying his claims of being moderate.

He’s not a gun owner’s friend. He says what he needs to say to get re-elected, then he goes back to Washington and does whatever the Democratic Party wants. Don’t endorse him. It will back-fire.
