Paying the salary of White House staffers alone will cost taxpayers $38,796,307 per year under the Obama Administration. And only if not a single salary increases between now and January 2013.
For years, the White House has been required to disclose the salary and position of every White House staffer to Congress. The 2010 report was issued today.
White House chief of staff Rahm Emanuel, press secretary Robert Gibbs, and senior advisers David Axelrod and Valerie Jarrett are the highest paid. Each brings in base salary of $172,200 for their government work.
Other highly-paid staffers include:
- Joseph Aldy, special assistant to the president for energy and the environment: $130,500
- Kate Andrias, associate White House counsel: $130,500
- James Albino, Senior Program Manager in the Office of National AIDS Policy: $91,800
- Frederick Baldassaro, unknown: $122,744
- Melody Barnes, director of the Domestic Policy Council: $172,200
- Ian Bassin, deputy White House counsel: $99,000
- Diana Beinart, tax counsel: $130,500
- Rachana Bhowmik, unknown: $100,000
- Steven Bressler, unknown: $148,510
Overall, there are 469 employees whose salaries are compiled to reach a total of $38,796,307. That comes to an average of about $82,700 per staffer.
Being part of an ineffective government bureaucracy pays well.
