100 Great Things About America, TAP Edition, Part 10

by Stephan Tawney on July 4, 2010

Inspired by Fortune’s list under the same name, here’s our version. All do respect to Fortune, but some items that shouldn’t be there were there and some that should be there weren’t there. So here we go, in no particular order.

91) Milton Bradley Company

Many a rainy afternoon has been passed by playing board games from Milton Bradley.

92) Facebook

Just not Farmville.

93) Television

Who alive in 1969 will forget watching the moon landing live?

Getting there is the easy part.

94) Alcatraz

Creepy but historical.

95) Harley Davidson

Jump on your Harley and cruise off into the sunset.

96) Nerf Guns

Used by everyone from little kids to bored office colleagues.

97) Blue Jeans

Thanks, Mr. Strauss.

Chilly.

98) Ice Road Trucking and Alaska Crab Fishing

Taking risks, reaping rewards.

99) Amusement Parks

I’m talking more than just Disney World or Universal Studios. Your local mom-and-pop institution makes the cut.

100) You

The American citizen. The people who fight to protect the country, vote for its leaders, pay for its infrastructure, serve on its juries, and take part in all other civic activities. This land is nothing more than dirt without its people and their lasting legacy.
