NAACP May Pass Resolution Condemning Tea Party Movement

by Stephan Tawney on July 12, 2010

The NAACP has long been more interested in standing up for liberalism than minorities. Most recently, a local NAACP leader revealed that black conservative Kenneth Gladney — who was beaten up by SEIU thugs — isn’t worthy of support from the organization because he’s conservative.

So this latest move comes as no surprise. The tea party movement threatens the Democratic Party so it must be smeared, along with everyone associated with it, as racist. Not because it’s actually racist but because it’s conservative and the NAACP isn’t.

The resolution, scheduled for a vote as early as Tuesday by delegates attending the annual NAACP convention in Kansas City, calls upon “all people of good will to repudiate the racism of the Tea Parties, and to stand in opposition to its drive to push our country back to the pre-civil rights era.”

Do you oppose further increasing the deficit? How about raising taxes? You must want to bring American back to the pre-civil rights era. Give the NAACP some credit: That logic required an unprecedented level of torturing.

“I think a lot of people are not taking the tea party movement seriously, and we need to take it seriously,” said Anita Russell, head of the Kansas City chapter of the NAACP. “We need to realize it’s really not about limited government.

The tea party movement openly fights against higher taxes, bigger government, and fiscal irresponsibility. So clearly it’s about hating black people instead of wanting smaller government.

See Allahpundit’s post for rebuttals to the “the tea party is racist” from Democratic strategist James Carville and New Republic editor John Judis, not that any rebuttals are actually required.

The argument for racism basically boils down to this: Tea partiers oppose the big government policies of Barack Obama and Nancy Pelosi. Barack Obama is black and the NAACP supports big government policies. Therefore, the tea party is racist.

The media, of course, will jump on news of the resolution and promote it without skepticism. You won’t hear about the political motivations behind the resolution or even questions about whether the resolution makes sense.

You’ll just hear about how the tea party movement is sanctioned by the NAACP as a racist organization. Every candidate associated with the group will be asked by CNN or MSNBC about their association with a group labeled racist by civil rights organizations.

It’s sleezy and slimy. And completely unsurprising.
