Bad news for Washington Democrats: Republican candidate Dan Coats leads Democratic candidate Brad Ellsworth by 21 points in Indiana, according to the latest Rasmussen poll. In fact, the liberal Ellsworth barely achieves 30% of the vote.
Indiana still has the look of a likely Republican Senate pickup, with former Senator Dan Coats remaining comfortably ahead of his Democratic opponent Brad Ellsworth
The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of Likely Voters in the state finds Coats with 51% support, while Ellsworth earns 30% of the vote, his poorest showing to date. Six percent (6%) favor some other candidate in the race, while 12% remain undecided.
Last month, Coats dropped below 50% but still led Ellsworth 47% to 33%.
Despite dirty Democratic attempts to paint Coats as some sort of corrupt lobbyist, voters have a very favorable view of the man. Fifty-six percent of voters have a favorable impression of him while just 25% have an unfavorable view. Independents hold a more favorable than unfavorable view of Coats by 16%.
But why is Coats leading by 21 points in this latest poll? He well-represents the views of modern Indianans. Sixty percent of voters support repealing ObamaCare, including a majority of Independents. Fifty-nine percent of voters favor an immigration law similar to the one in Arizona, including half of Independents.
The association Ellsworth has with Barack Obama also doesn’t help. Fifty-eight percent of Indianans disapprove of the job the president is doing. That includes fifty-seven percent of disapproving Independents. The Republican governor, Mitch Daniels, has a fifty-eight percent approval rating.
This is not the year to support bigger government, higher taxes, more spending, and Washington corruption. The good news for Coats is, that’s precisely what Brad Ellsworth supports. And voters see that.
