Cocktail Circuit Lindsey Graham To Vote For Far-Leftist Kagan

by Stephan Tawney on July 20, 2010

Once again Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC) has decided that it’s more important to be popular in Barack Obama’s Washington than to stand up for America’s future. The wishy-washy has announced that he will support Elena Kagan’s confirmation for the Supreme Court.

Why? Because that’s the cool thing to do in Obama’s Washington, even if it’s not the right thing for America or even popular amongst the general citizenry. And no conservative could possibly find Kagan to be qualified for a lifetime appointment to the highest court in the land. She has made her far-leftist views known and there’s no reason to believe she will become more moderate once on the court.

So again, this is about Lindsey Graham wanting to be liked. Not by his constituents or even fellow Republicans, mind you, but the Washington cool kids. As long as he gets a pat on the back from Steny Hoyer and a friendly handshake from George Soros at the next cocktail party, he’ll be happy.

Update: This is what I’m talking about:

Sen. Durbin praises Sen. Graham for pro-Kagan vote: An ‘extraordinary senator…thoughtful.’

Does anyone here really think Durbin believes Graham to be “extraordinary” or “thoughtful”? Of course not. He’s blowing smoke because he’s thrilled that Democrats now have bipartisan cover to confirm a far-leftist to the court.

Graham, meanwhile, is smiling because he thinks Important People really, really like him.
