Crist: Of Course I Support A Mosque At Ground Zero

by Stephan Tawney on August 14, 2010

But of course he does. Charlie Crist would announce his support for sharia law if Barack Obama suddenly backed the system. Anything to win over enough Democratic votes to prevail over Marco Rubio. No backbone.

Florida Gov Charlie Crist just told me in Panama City he fully supports President’s decision to back construction of mosque near Ground Zero. “I think it’s the right thing to do,” Gov Crist said of POTUS decision on mosque, in comment that will only anger GOP more. Crist backing President on mosque is a reminder it’s likely he will caucus with Dems if elected to Senate as Independent.

Personally, I think it’s a bad move politically. It’s not only the GOP that will be angered by his support. Sixty-one percent of New York State residents and fifty-six percent of New York City residents oppose the construction. Where do you think typically Democratic-voting Florida Jews, and older residents generally, stand on building a mosque at Ground Zero?

Incidentally, Crist’s approval rating recently hit a new low of just forty-four percent. That’s the lowest rating recorded for a Floridian governor in sixteen years. To put that into perspective, the last governor was Jeb Bush, the former president’s brother. So a politician with the last name “Bush” had a higher approval rating in 2006 than Charlie Crist does now.
