Just the latest evidence that Bill Clinton was and is a shrewder communicator/bullshitter than Barack Obama ever has been. Obama relied on media apologia and cover-ups. He never had to work for positive media coverage. If he actually had to use his own political skills, he’d still be a community organizer.

Newsmax is an apologetically conservative publication actually launched in the final years of the Clinton Administration to oppose liberal policies. Its writers have probably never said a positive thing about Bill Clinton in their careers. And yet there’s Bill Clinton visiting the offices, shaking hands, and complimenting the employees.

That’s the Bill Clinton I remember. He had the benefit of positive media coverage, of course, as Democratic politicians typically do. But he also knew how to campaign and appear to be a cool, friendly guy you could find at your local bar.

The media only talks about Obama being that kind of politician; he isn’t. He’s awkward, disconnected, and fumbles on a consistent basis. His natural political instincts are non-existent. He spent 20 years in the church of a racist, launched his career in the living room of a terrorist, labeled Americans racist, and basically did everything that would have been political suicide for any other politician.

But Obama didn’t get over those scandals and Freudian slips through the use of shrewd political strategy. There are days when I doubt his ability to find his ass without a Garmin.

Instead, sources friendly to him in the media and entertainment industry covered for him. The Bill Ayers scandal wasn’t put away because Obama connected with people; the media just mocked those who brought it up, and generally made it a non-issue. Without the complicity of the media and entertainment industry, Obama would never have made it past the primary, if he even would have made it that far.

Again, none of this is to say that Clinton was treated unfairly by leftist media sources during his time in office. He had support from the usual suspects, too. But if those sources suddenly disappeared, Clinton had natural political instincts that would have provided him with at least a shot in hell of righting his own ship.
