Even while the government of the City of New York vehemently backs the construction of a 13-story mosque near Ground Zero, the St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church — which was destroyed in the September 11th attacks — has yet to be rebuilt. Due to a lack of interest? No. Due to government interference? Yes.
The story of the tiny St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church and its efforts to rebuild after the collapse of the World Trade Center is one of well-intentioned promises that led to endless negotiations, design disputes, delays and mounting costs.
But today, the church exists only on blueprints. The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, the agency overseeing reconstruction, has not finalized the exchange of land needed to provide the congregation with a new home near ground zero. Until that deal is completed, the authority cannot proceed with building the southern foundation wall for the entire site, and cannot draw up designs for a bomb screening center for buses and trucks that would go under the new church.
That article, published by the New York Times, was from July 2008. The church still has not been rebuilt. Again, why? Because of government interference. Bloomberg is promising a deal to rebuild the church will come…any day now. The check is in the mail.
So let’s review. On September 11, 2001, Islamic terrorists killed thousands of innocent people — most of them infidels — at Ground Zero. During the attack, a Greek Orthodox church was destroyed.
In 2010, the church has still not been rebuilt, not due to a lack of interest but due to government interference. Meanwhile, the same government stands firmly behind the construction of a 13-story mosque at Ground Zero, even labeling opponents of the project “racist”.
We are constantly reminded that Muslims have every right to build their victory monument mosque because of protections offered by the First Amendment. Any hint of opposition to the project is labeled “racist”.
But what happens when non-Muslims want to rebuild a house of worship destroyed by Islamic terrorists? Well, then the government stands in the way. No rush to guarantee First Amendment protections to non-Muslims.
So a church goes down, symbols of American capitalism are destroyed, and thousands of infidels are murdered. A mosque goes up, criticism of Islam is labeled “racist” or “bigoted”, and protections are offered to Muslims that are denied to Christians.
It’s a great day for Islamic extremism.

[...] Ground Zero Mosque To Be Built, Church Still Blocked | The American Pundit Just. Frickin'. Amazing. Just to be clear, I'm not against the 'mosque' because it is a 'mosque' per se, I'm against it because I'm sick and tired of watching one group, who has a history of supporting this country and a following which built this country, get stonewalled and abused at every corner… While other groups, who are relative newcomers, and have large groups of followers that would prefer to see us all dead, get coddled and treated with kid gloves. I want equality, for everyone. Not just the minorities, not just the easily offended, not just the newbies. Everyone. __________________ GUDE FOR PRESIDENT 2012 [...]
