Democrats can’t run on their own record over the past two years in the White House or four years in Congress, so they’re resorting to attacking a man who hasn’t possessed any political power since last January.
But is this even a good strategy? Bush is nowhere near as unpopular as he was when he left office. In fact, Democratic internal polling finds the forty-third president significantly more popular than Obama in battleground districts.
As of April Americans were split on whether they would prefer Bush in office to the liberal incumbent, and that was before Obama’s approval rating took its most recent nosedive.
Ah, well. It’s not that attacking Bush is a good option for Democrats, it’s just the only option for most. What else can they run on this year?
The economy remains in the dumper, the employment situation is getting worse, we face a record deficit, and voters have lost all faith in their current representatives. All of which occurred under Democratic rule.
