Miss USA Rima Fakih, herself a Muslim, believes the Ground Zero mosque should be moved.
Rima Fakih: “I totally agree with President Obama with the statement on Constitutional rights of freedom of religion. I also agree that it shouldn’t be so close to the World Trade Center. We should be more concerned with the tragedy than religion.”
Gawker mocks her statement as inconsequential, and it probably is in the grand scheme of things. It’s not like the radical imam behind the project will suddenly change his mind because Miss USA thinks he should, regardless of the fact she’s a fellow Muslim. In fact, he probably views her unfavorably in light of her sexy public appearances.
But this does demonstrate that Barack Obama and Nancy Pelosi are more defensive of the Ground Zero mosque than even some who could use the building as a place of worship. Fakih may support the concept of the mosque and obviously isn’t Islamaphobic, yet she understands the sensitivities surrounding Ground Zero and believes those to be more important.
Bonus: Fakih has another ongoing project. She is serving alongside celebrities like Nick Jonas and Jordin Sparks on the National Youth Leadership Committee for the Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation’s centennial celebration. Leftist mind status: Blown.
