Video: Why Won’t Reid Apologize For Calling Petraeus A Liar?

by Stephan Tawney on August 20, 2010

Back during the early days of the surge in 2007, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) was having none of this talk of progress. In fact, he declared the war “lost” and insisted that the situation in Iraq couldn’t possibly improve under the surge strategy.

But that wasn’t the worst part. Reid, toeing the line pushed by MoveOn.org and other leftist extremist groups, declared repeatedly that General David Petraeus was a liar unworthy of consideration.

“He’s made a number of statements over the years that have not proven to be factual.”

Dana Bash of CNN asked Reid in an interview about the then-upcoming testimony by Petraeus on Capitol Hill.

Bash: General Petraeus is going to come to the hill and make it clear to you that there is progress going on in Iraq, that the so-called “surge” is working. Will you believe him when he says that?

Reid: No, I don’t believe him. ‘Cause it’s not happening.

In those dark days of the war in Iraq, Reid stood with MoveOn.org and other extreme leftists while calling General Petraues a liar. Of course, it turns out that Reid was the one lying.

Progress was being made and Petraeus was telling the truth. The other day the final combat brigade pulled out of Iraq, largely due to the success of the surge and the leadership of David Petraues.

But has Reid ever apologized for calling the respected four-star general a liar? Nope. The Nevada Democrat evidently stands by his remarks. And Sharron Angle, his Republican opponent, intends to drive that point home:
