I’ll believe it when I see it. It’s not that I doubt Blago will try to subpoena the trio. I just doubt that the judge will permit the media circus testimony of three powerful Democrats in an election year. Yeah, I know. Political impartiality in the courtroom. If you actually believe that, I’ve got a bridge to sell you.
Blago had plenty of justification to subpoena Barack Obama during the last trial. After all, there were allegations that Obama himself was involved in the dealings and it was his former seat that Blago attempted to sell. And yet it took the judge no time to deny the subpoena request.
Don’t get me wrong. I’d love to see Emanuel, Reid, and Menendez testify about their roles in the corruption case. Even beyond political considerations, we should know if they were involved. I just don’t see the subpoenas ever being issued. At least not this year.
