Senator John McCain (R-AZ), who has tacked right in his pursuit to win again the Republican nomination for United States Senate in Arizona, is headed for an easy victory this evening. Polls show the multi-term incumbent, known for angering conservatives with his “maverick” behavior, having successfully beaten back a challenge from J.D. Hayworth.
Hayworth just couldn’t get off the ground for any period of time. Video footage dug up by opponents, showing the former Congressman explaining on an infomercial how to get free money from the government, probably didn’t help.
Prospects for the General Election
McCain is expected to hold the seat for Republicans. Between the economy and the Obama Administration’s lawsuit against Arizona’s popular immigration law, Democrats aren’t the hottest commodity in Arizona this year.
