When Marco Rubio wins the Republican nomination for United States Senate this evening he’ll be in a pretty good position to take home the big prize. A new poll from Public Policy Polling finds the Florida conservative back on top in the general election race, leading his closest challenger — Charlie Crist — by eight percentage points.
PPP finds he would begin the general election in the lead at 40%, followed by Charlie Crist at 32%, and Meek at 17%.
If Meek — the likely Democratic nominee — sounds weak, consider this: He performs better than his opponent for the Democratic nomination, billionaire Jeff Greene. Greene would carry just 13% of the vote were Democrats to run him in the general election.
